My husband’s childhood best friend and his sweet family are coming to town for Thanksgiving for the second year in a row, and I’m loving this new tradition! My brother and his family are also living in Charlotte this year while he does a 1-year fellowship in foot and ankle surgery to complete his medical training. So I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting family and friends for Thanksgiving this year! It’s truly one of my favorite holidays – recognizing all we have to be thankful for, amazing food, family and football! What more could you want?! As I started thinking about decor for the big meal, I was inspired by some bright and bold Thanksgiving tablescapes, so I decided to give it a go! I’ll preface this by saying this is pretty out of my decor comfort zone – I’m usually a pretty neutral kind of gal. But as is usually the case when you push yourself outside of that comfort spot, I had a lot of fun putting it together! I love how it turned out and it was super inexpensive and easy, so I wanted to share it with you all in case anyone is scrambling for a quick and easy last-minute idea for Thursday!
As I mentioned, I was loving some of the bright and bold ideas I was seeing, one of which included oranges with some greenery. I saw another one that used pomegranates, so I decided to combine the two! Everything you see included in this tablescape came from a quick trip to Trader Joe’s and totaled about $25, except for the 3 votives with candles which I already had. I grabbed a bag of oranges, a bag of clementines and a handful of pomegranates from the fruit section, and added in a bundle of eucalyptus and and a bundle of this other plum colored filler to complement the red from the pomegranates, and that was it!
I honestly just kind of threw it all down on the middle of the table without a ton of thought/planning. I cut and laid the eucalyptus and plum stems down first in the center of the table, placed the 3 votives spaced out in the middle and then just sort of arranged the pomegranates, oranges and clementines on top of the greenery to have a mix of different colors and sizes throughout. I really prefer not having much height on the table as far as decor during a because I find it just gets in the way, so this is perfect to me, but you could add in taller candles if you wanted to.
Anytime I host a dinner at our home, I pull out my favorite Juliska pewter dishes. I just love the modern, yet rustic look of them, and they go so well with so many different things from a decor perspective. Here I have out the octagon charger (a little tough to find now, not sure if they still make it) and the dinner plate. They do make this round charger now that looks like a little deeper shade of pewter which would make for a beautiful tonal look. I already had these napkins from Anthropologie a few years ago that went with the colors of the centerpiece perfectly, but these current ones are similar! And I used these napkin rings from the Magnolia line with them.
And that was it! Easy, peasy and inexpensive, but bold and warm with an inviting feel for our cozy Thanksgiving dinner with family and close friends.
Can’t wait to dig into that turkey and celebrate all that we have to be thankful for!
Xo,
Shannon
